Day 55: Shared Memory, Different Boundaries
Today was mostly calls. Different people, different industries, different levels of technical depth. But the same underlying question kept showing up: how do you build an agent that can work with a company's shared knowledge without becoming a privacy nightmare?
That's the real enterprise problem. Not "can the model answer questions?" Models can answer questions. The hard part is deciding which questions a given agent should be able to answer, which data it should be allowed to see, and which users should get access to it.
Shared Memory Is Valuable — and Dangerous
One conversation was about institutional memory: shared repositories, shared assets, CRM data, old conversations, investor context, company knowledge spread across too many tools. The dream is obvious. Give people a chat interface and let them ask useful questions about the information the organization already has.
But the moment that gets real, the problem changes. Internal users should see one thing. External partners should see another. Some should know that a company exists, but not see sensitive materials. Some should be able to query notes, but not financial details. This cannot be solved with a polite sentence in the prompt saying "please don't reveal confidential data." If the data is accessible, it will leak eventually.
The architecture has to enforce the boundary before the model ever gets a chance to improvise. Separate views. Separate tools. Separate permissions. That's the difference between a clever demo and a system a company could actually trust.
Power Users Want Hooks. Companies Want Guardrails.
Another call was with someone experimenting with Pinchy as an orchestration layer around a coding workflow. Not using the agent to write the code directly, but to trigger other systems, inspect state, launch the right tool, and keep a human in the loop where needed. That's a very different use case from the ones I've been optimizing for so far, but it was useful because it exposed the same tension from another angle.
Power users want flexibility: webhooks, APIs, MCP servers, maybe limited command invocation, ways to wire Pinchy into bigger systems. But the more serious the environment, the less acceptable it is to just give an agent broad shell access and hope for the best. The answer isn't "make it all possible." The answer is to make the safe path the easy path.
That keeps confirming the direction I'm already moving in: focused agents, narrowly scoped integrations, explicit permission models, and eventually better support for things like webhooks and MCPs in ways that are configurable without turning the whole system back into unrestricted OpenClaw.
Templates Are More Important Than They Look
One thing that came up repeatedly in demos today: people don't just want an agent platform. They want a fast way to get to a useful setup. If someone picks a CRM assistant, or a finance assistant, or eventually some business-specific workflow assistant, they don't want to start from a blank text box and a wall of tools.
That's why the Odoo templates I built today matter more than they look on the surface. They are not just convenience. They are a way of encoding boundaries. This agent gets these permissions. This data access pattern. This tone. This starting instruction set. Then you customize from there.
That feels increasingly like the right abstraction for Pinchy: not one giant agent with access to everything, but many smaller, better-shaped agents with clear jobs and clear limits.

Three calls, one pattern: everybody wants shared AI help, but nobody actually wants a limitless agent. They want memory with boundaries, integrations with guardrails, and agents shaped around real roles. That's useful. And more importantly, that's deployable.
